導入（Introduction）：マスメディアは，社会に強い影響を与えている。そのメリットとデメリットについて考えてみたい。

本論（Body）：① マスメディアのデメリット（プライバシーや人権の侵害がある。）  ② マスメディアのメリット（不正や汚職を暴露して，真実を調査する。）

結論（Conclusion）：マスメディアの使命は，権力を監視することと，国民に真実を伝え，民意を代弁することである。

Now, mass media have a strong influence on our society and sometimes make public opinion.   I would like to talk about the merits and demerits of mass media.

As to demerits, mass media often invade one’s privacy and violate human rights. For example, they treated one victim of the Matsumoto Sarin Attack affair as a criminal. So, mass media must control their own power by themselves through discretionary self-censorship.

However, mass media also have merits. For example, they disclosed many political scandals or corruption including the Lockheed affair and the HIV scandal or the contaminated blood products affair. Mass media inquired into the truth of these serious social matters.

Consequently, mass media should be independent of any existing national power and should play the role of a watchdog. Their duty is to inform the public about the truth and to be a spokesman for the public.
