2024年第１回英検より、英検１級～英検２級までにライティング問題に要約問題が加わります。英検協会のホームページにサンプル問題が掲載されています。要約問題のポイントは【自分の意見は書いてはいけない】と考えています。
英検準１級のサンプルの要約問題の要約例を示します。

● Introduction: Read the article below and summarize it in your own words as far as possible in English.
● Suggested length: 60-70words
● Write your summary in the space provided on your answer sheet. Any writing outside the space will not be graded.

In the late 20th century, the British government introduced a landmark policy to provide museums with financial aid.
This policy had two benefits. One was that people would gain the opportunity to experience the collection of artworks in museums, the other was that they would learn the country’s historical background.
However, the policy negatively affected independent museums with entrance fees. They struggled financially due to a decrease in visitors.

［訳］　20世紀後半において、イギリス政権は美術館に財政援助をする画期的な政策を導入した。
この政策には２つの利点があった。１つは、人々は美術館にある芸術作品のコレクションを経験する機会を手に入ることであり、もう１つは、人々はその国の歴史的背景を学ぶ、ということである。
しかしながら、その政策は入場料が必要な独立した美術館にマイナスの影響を及ぼした。訪問者数の減少により、それらの美術館は財政難で奮闘していた。
