How to cope with the aging society
Japanese society is aging faster than any other advanced country. This would be one of the most serious problems for future Japan. So, the government must take prompt effective measures against this problem. I have three suggestions for this problem.
Firstly, the government should stop the declining birthrate, because younger people are needed in order to support the elderly. Therefore, our society must support women who are willing to bear children and also we must create better social atmosphere for them. For example, we should improve services of day-care center.
Secondly, the government should encourage more retired people to go back to work. In order to do so, new jobs which are suitable for the elderly must be created. This would lead to their independence or meaningful life and also this would boost Japan’s economy and solve the problem with labor shortage.
Thirdly, the government should revise the existing national pension system. Now the increasing number of people don’t pay premium for it. In order to make it obligatory, it should be included in the consumption tax.
Consequently, revising the social welfare system including the national pension system, public nursing care system for the elderly, and medical insurance system may be the best solution for this problem. In my opinion, if higher taxes can improve our lives then it is acceptable.
